5 Great Gifts for Your Favorite Wine Aficionado

Great Gifts for your Favorite Wine Aficionado

A wine drinker will almost always appreciate a wine-themed gift. But with so many options out there it can be hard to know what to choose. Moreover, some gifts look good but turn out to be less practical, unattractive, and/or simply not what you expected.

Here are five great gifts for your favorite wine aficionado that we discovered this year. We have used all of them ourselves and recommend them. They’re all decently priced and available online.

1.      An Ice Bucket from Snowfox

If you want to give a gift of drinkware for home entertainment, look no further than an ice bucket from Snowfox. This is one of the prettiest yet most functional ice buckets I’ve ever used. These ice buckets come with a lid and ice scoop, and they’re offered in a range of colors, including blue and marble. The plain steel version is dishwasher safe; the other ones are hand washable. The extra-large bucket (pictured here) comfortably fits four wine bottles at once. Of course, an ice bucket is pretty versatile and can be used for beer, soda, and other purposes. Snowfox also sells glassware (some match the ice buckets), carafes, and related items. The smaller buckets range from $50-55 and the larger ones are more of a splurge at $125, but the last time I checked the website was offering some discounts. You can also find these products on Amazon for about the same price.

2.      A Wine Cooler from Huski

Great Gifts for your Favorite Wine Aficionado

If your wine aficionado might want to keep a bottle of wine chilled without dealing with ice, consider a wine cooler from Huski. This award-winning, high-performance cooler keeps a bottle chilled for up to six hours; just cool it in the fridge and screw the bottle in and you’re good to go! This product has been fabulous for our football tailgates, although you can use it anywhere. The silicon base protects surfaces and stabilizes the chiller. It comes in an array of colors, including champagne and stone grey. The company also sells beer coolers, glassware, and bottle openers. The wine cooler costs $50; I also found it on Amazon for the same price.

3.      A Wine Flask from Hydro Flask

Want to bring your favorite wine with you but don’t want to deal with the glass bottle? A wine-bottle-sized wine flask from Hydro Flask would come in handy.  This insulated container holds one standard 750 ml wine bottle and keeps it cold for about 24 hours – with no funny metallic taste. This is great for the pool, the beach, even air travel. The flask is not limited to wine or other cold beverages; it is designed to keep a drink hot for about 12 hours. The company offers a lot of similar products, such as insulated food jars, tumblers, and lunch boxes, and there are several colors to choose from. The products can also be customized. It sells on the website for $44.95; it’s also on Amazon in a range of prices.

4.      The Book Rosé Revolution from Interlink Books

Great Gifts for your Favorite Wine Aficionado

Does your favorite wine aficionado love rosé wine? If so, you may want to gift Rosé Revolution, a new coffee table gift book on what has become one of the most popular types of wine. This impressive tome, written by Rasmus Emborg and Jens Honoré, delves into how rosé developed in the last 20 years as told through 13 of the most significant producers in the world. The compelling stories are easy to read and are beautifully illustrated. The book also explains some of the aspects of winemaking, such as oxidation and malolactic fermentation, to provide a better understanding of how the wine is made. The suggested retail price is $45 but it can be found on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers at varying prices; last time I checked Simon and Schuster was offering a discount.

5.      The Wine-Opoly Board Game from Late for the Sky

For something different for your wine aficionado, and less expensive, how about a wine-themed board game? Wine-Opoly is a fun takeoff on the classic Monopoly game. Players buy wines, collect wine shops, and trade them in for wineries. As in Monopoly itself, there are curve balls, such as dealing with import taxes and penalties for committing a faux pas (say, serving a rare Bordeaux with a lime twist and a straw). The playing cards also include wine information and challenges, such as whether you can correctly spell Gewurztraminer. There’s both traditional play and a one-hour version. The company sells similarly themed riffs on Monopoly, including ones on animals, hobbies, and certain universities. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $24.96 but I saw this all over the internet at prices both higher and lower (even a new set on eBay for $6.95).
